Professor Musah and Allix traveled to Houston, TX to present at the 71st Annual American Society of Mass Spectrometry Conference. Professor Musah and Allix presented posters titled “Ear-resistible: A DART-Mass Spectral Approach for the Detection of the Inner Ear Disorder Ménière’s Disease” and “Don’t Be Ear-ritated: Kendrick Mass Defect-facilitated Determination of Triglycerides in Earwax”, respectively.

Musah Lab Presents at NIJ Conference

Professor Musah, Monica, Benedetta and Alexa traveled to Washington D.C. to present at the 2023 National Institute of Justice National Research Conference. Professor Musah gave a talk titled “Unbe-Weed-able! Distinguishing Hemp and Marijuana Varieties of Cannabis sativa using Ambient Ionization Mass Spectrometry and Advanced Chemometrics”. Monica, Benedetta and Alexa presented posters titled “Identification of New Psychoactive Substances by Fusion of Ambient Mass Spectrometric and Infrared Spectroscopic Data”, “Eat, Drink, DART, Repeat – Detection, Differentiation and Quantification of Cannabinoids in Complex Matrices by Direct Analysis in Real Time – High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry” and “Don’t Egg-nore the Evidence: Utilizing Direct Analysis in Real Time—High Resolution Mass Spectrometry for the Identification of Necrophagous Insect Species to Facilitate Post-Mortem Interval Determination”, respectively.

Megan, Amy and Allix Graduate

Megan Chambers, Amy Osborne and Allix Coon all graduated with their Ph.D. Megan is currently a post-doc at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Amy is currently a chemistry instructor at Schenectady Community College. Allix is currently a post-doc in the Musah Lab and the co-founder of the company, Sangali. Congratulations Dr. Chambers, Dr. Osborne and Dr. Coon!

Musah Lab Presents at UAlbany Showcase

Alexa and Niara presented at the 2023 UAlbany Showcase hosted by the University at Albany, SUNY. Each presented posters titled “An Egg-celerated Method: Utilization of Direct Analysis in Real Time - High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry for the Identification of Necrophagous Blowfly Egg Species Aimed at Determining the Post-Mortem Interval” and “Seeing Red: An Azo Reduction and Mass Spectrometry-based Approach for the Efficient Detection of Sudan Dyes I-IV in Red Palm Oil”, respectively.

Professor Musah and Allix traveled to Monterey, CA to present at the Association for Mass Spectrometry and Advances in the Clinical Lab 2023 Annual Meeting. Allix presented a poster titled “Earwax Lipid Profiles as a Reporter of Disease: Application to an Otolaryngological Disorder”.

Professor Musah, Allix and Benedetta traveled to Philadelphia, PA to present at the Pittcon 2023 Conference and Expo. Professor Musah and Allix presented talks titled “‘High’ on the Successful Development of an Ambient Ionization Mass Spectrometric Approach for the Detection and Quantification of Cannabinoids in Complex Plant and Edible Matrices” and “Grinning Ear to Ear: The Development of a Diagnostic Approach for Meniere’s Disease via Mass Spectrometric Analysis of Earwax”, respectively. Benedetta presented a poster titled “High-End Sweets - Application of Ambient Mass Spectrometry for the Forensic Analysis of Cannabinoid-infused Complex Matrices”.

Megan presented a poster titled “Weeding Out the Methods to Enable Rapid Differentiation of Fiber-type and Drug-type Varieties of Cannabis sativa: A Combined Ambient Ionization Mass Spectrometric and Chemometric Approach”. Benedetta presented a poster titled “Livin’ the High Life - Detection, Differentiation and Quantification of Cannabinoids in Edible and Non-edible Complex Matrices by Ambient Ionization Mass Spectrometry”.

Professor Musah and Monica traveled to Orlando Florida to present at the 75th American Academy of Forensic Sciences Conference. Professor Musah presented two posters in the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) section titled “Getting into the Weeds - A Combined Ambient Mass Spectrometric and Chemometric Approach for Differentiating Hemp and Marijuana Varieties of Cannabis sativa” and “You Are What You Eat! Identification of the Matrices on which Necrophagous Insects Feed using Direct Analysis in Real Time - High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (DART-HRMS) and Chemometrics”. Monica gave a talk titled “Combatting Illegal Logging Through the use of Direct Analysis in Real-Time High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (DART-HRMS) and Statistical Logarithms”.
